At last year's Timmys, we added several new awards, including Best Editing, Best Adapted Score, Best Original Song (in a Motion Picture), Best Animated Motion Picture, Best Comic Book or Franchise Motion Picture, Best Title Sequence, and Best Writing for television series. This was done in an effort to honor as many different jobs involved in a film or television production. However, we knew we still had many important people and departments left out.

This year, we are adding 10 more awards to the Timmys:

Best Production Design (Film and Television)

La La Land Screencap
La La Land (2016) dir. Damien Chazelle

The award for Best Production Design, added to both the film and television sides of the awards, is awarded to those who help to create the film or series with the best aesthetic, aiding the storytelling through the world in which the characters live. This is done through art direction, set direction, production design, and set design.

Best Costume Design (Film and Television)

Babylon Screencap
Babylon (2022) dir. Damien Chazelle

The award for Best Costume Design, added to both the film and television sides of the awards, is awarded to those who help to create the film or series with the best costumes. These costume designers work rigoriously to ensure the quality of the attires worn by the performers, down to the most minute detail. It is often overlooked how important costume designing is to a production.

Best Sound Design (Film and Television)

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope Screencap
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) dir. George Lucas

The award for Best Sound Design, added to both the film and television sides of the awards, is awarded to those who help to design and mix the sound for a production. It cannot be overstated how important sound design is to a project, immersing the viewer into the world of the film or series through sound.

Best Stunt Work (Film)

John Wick: Chapter 4 Screencap
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) dir. Chad Stahelski

The award for Best Stunt Work, added to the film side of the awards, is awarded to those who lead the stunt teams on a film, and aid in choreography. Many films, especially those in the Comic Book or Franchise category, are built upon the hard work of the stunt teams, which are still not being recognized at the largest international award shows. Fortunately, they are now recognized at the Timmys.

Best Makeup and Hairstyling (Film)

The Whale Screencap
The Whale (2022) dir. Darren Aronofsky

The award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, added to the film side of the awards, is awarded to those who lead the makeup team, as well as the hair team. Those in charge of designing the makeup and hairstyles applied to the performers seen on screen are just as important to the visuals of a film as cinematographers, production designers, and more.

Best Visual Effects (Film)

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Screencap
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) dir. Gore Verbinski

The award for Best Visual Effects, added to the film side of the awards, is awarded to those who lead the visual effects team on a film. Visual effects are often abused in today's filmmaking landscape, but those shots that are impossible to film practically and must be done digitally can make or break the immersion of a film. It will never not be impressive to witness a completely digital design appear as if it can exist in our world.

Guest Acting in Drama and Comedy (Television)

The Bear // Season 3, Episode 6 Screencap
The Bear (2022-) // Season 3, Episode 6 - "Napkins"

The Timmys have had guest acting awards for television series since its inception. However, it is not until now that the guest acting awards (Best Guest Actor and Best Guest Actress) are split into drama and comedy categories. This means there are now four guest acting awards:

  • Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series
  • Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series
  • Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series
  • Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series

The 2025 Timmy Awards will be held next January.
