We are now three-quarters of the way through the year, which means it is time for my final Timmy Awards update. The next time you hear from me will be when the nominees are officially announced on January 1st, 2026. Just like the last one, I will be sharing who my nominees currently are, and which of those I believe are strong candidates to finish the year as such. My insights could give readers an advantage when it comes to filling out their Timmys ballots come January, though I won't explicity say who I think are the front-runners. I'm also not exploring every category, since there are now a total of 60 across both film and television. I also will not be writing about any of the nominees I wrote about in my First Quarter Update or First Half Update, so read that first if you haven't already.

Table of Contents:

FILM AWARDS

Best Motion Picture Drama

  • Moonlight (2016)
  • After Yang (2021)
  • Sing Sing (2023)
  • Conclave (2024)
  • The Life of Chuck (2024)
  • The Long Walk (2025)
  • One Battle After Another (2025)

It is with great sorrow that I announce the departure of After Yang from this category. It will likely receive some nominations in the technical categories, so that's still a win for the After Yang-hive. Barry Jenkins' Moonlight has also been knocked out. One of the new additions is The Long Walk, a film based on a Stephen King novel of the same name, was a very thrilling ride. A dystopian America (not to be confused with modern-day America) holds the Long Walk every year where 50 men sign up to walk as far as possible for a prize. If you walk too slow for too long, you are killed, and the last man standing wins a huge prize. All of the characters are great, and it's dreadful to watch knowing only one of them can end up alive. The other addition to the list is Paul Thomas Anderson's bold and ambitious One Battle After Another. There's not much that can be said about this film that hasn't been said already. An absolutely incredible experience to witness this in a theater. I'll dive into the specifics later as I talk about the nominations the film currently has in other categories, but an absolute triumph for PTA.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama

  • Adrien Brody (Detachment)
  • Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another)
  • Colman Domingo (Sing Sing)
  • Ralph Fiennes (Conclave)
  • Michael B. Jordan (Sinners)
  • Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice)
One Battle After Another Screencap
Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another (2025) dir. Paul Thomas Anderson

Two cuts were made here to make room for Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another: Adrien Brody in Detachment, and Austin Butler in Caught Stealing. Butler isn't even here because he was both added and removed in the time between the last update and this one. Now for Leo, the guy always brings it. I also nominated him in this category at last year's Timmys for his work in The Departed. Leonardo DiCaprio is someone you can always count on to give a great performance. This one in particular is dramatic yet hilarious, finding a way to make a more comedic side work for him in a film that likes to delve a bit into the whimsy.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama

  • Cate Blanchett (Carol)
  • Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu)
  • Sally Hawkins (Bring Her Back)
  • Rooney Mara (Carol)
  • Alicia Vikander (The Assessment)
Carol Screencap
Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara in Carol (2015) dir. Todd Haynes

There's nothing new here, mainly due to an already very strong group.

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture Drama

  • Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project)
  • David Jonsson (The Long Walk)
  • Ben Kingsley (Sexy Beast)
  • Clarence Maclin (Sing Sing)
  • Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu)
  • Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice)
The Long Walk Screencap
David Jonsson (right) in The Long Walk (2025) dir. Francis Lawrence

David Jonsson in The Long Walk is the only addition to this list, at the expense of Willem Dafoe in The Florida Project. Jonsson is great in The Long Walk, creating one of the best on-screen friendships of the year with Cooper Hoffman. Jonsson's screen presence is truly unmatched, and I agree with others when they say he's going to be a star.

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture Drama

  • Carrie Coon (His Three Daughters)
  • Naomie Harris (Moonlight)
  • Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another)
  • Natasha Lyonne (His Three Daughters)
  • Elizabeth Olsen (His Three Daughters)
  • Hailee Steinfeld (Sinners)
One Battle After Another Screencap
Chase Infiniti in One Battle After Another (2025) dir. Paul Thomas Anderson

This was a tough decision. I thought Hailee Steinfeld was great in Sinners, but Chase Infiniti stole all of her scenes in One Battle After Another. Hailee also didn't have a ton of screen time, so that's why I made this decision. Chase Infiniti is another one I'm confident in saying will become a star. Let it be known I first invested in the Chase Infiniti stock when I saw her as Jake Gyllenhaal's daughter in the Timmy Award nominated anthology series Presumed Innocent.

Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical

  • Comet (2014)
  • Sing Street (2016)
  • The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
  • Friendship (2025)
  • Materialists (2025)
  • Sorry, Baby (2025)
  • A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (2025)
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey Screencap
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (2025) dir. Kogonada

This category has had a lot of turnover during the year, which was the total opposite of last year when I was struggling to even fill out the category. Friendship and Materialists fans aren't gonna be too happy, but it is what it is. Eva Victor, star and director of Sorry, Baby, does a brilliant job toeing the line between comedy and drama, using comedy to cut through the raw tension and emotions of the subject matter. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey was one of my most anticipated films of the year, mainly due to it being directed by Kogonada. Though Kogonada wrote his previous two feature films, he did not write this one. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed it despite the pretty mid reviews. It's a truly gorgeous (expected from Kogonada, who reunited with his After Yang DP Benjamin Loeb), funny, and heartfelt journey. My only gripe is with Margot Robbie's character, whom I didn't find to be a particularly good person, but I otherwise had a very good time.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical

  • Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin)
  • Jon Favreau (Chef)
  • Gabriel LaBelle (Saturday Night)
  • Justin Long (Comet)
  • Tim Robinson (Friendship)
Friendship Screencap
Tim Robinson in Friendship (2025) dir. Andrew DeYoung

There's nothing new to report on here, so that's a win for Friendship fans.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical

  • Dakota Johnson (Materialists)
  • Florence Pugh (Thunderbolts*)
  • Emmy Rossum (Comet)
  • Sophie Thatcher (Companion)
  • Eva Victor (Sorry, Baby)
  • Rachel Zegler (West Side Story)
Sorry, Baby Screencap
Eva Victor in Sorry, Baby (2025) dir. Eva Victor

I liked Sophie Thatcher in Companion, but I was pretty sure she'd eventually be knocked out. However, Eva Victor in Sorry, Baby was genuinely fantastic, and could have knocked out most of these people here. I mentioned earlier how she is able to toe the line between comedy and drama very well when concerning such a sensitive topic, and this is very visible in her on-screen performance. Her comedic deliveries are great, but so is her real vulnerability in moments like the bathtub scene, as well as the end scene.

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical

  • Michael Cera (The Phoenician Scheme)
  • Chris Evans (Materialists)
  • Mike Faist (West Side Story)
  • Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin)
  • Dylan O'Brien (Saturday Night)
The Phoenician Scheme Screencap
Michael Cera in The Phoenician Scheme (2025) dir. Wes Anderson

This is definitely the weakest category we have that is fully filled out. There haven't been any subtractions in any of these updates, just people being added in. Michael Cera is the most "Wes Anderson" actor to not have appeared in a Wes Anderson film. Until now.

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical

  • Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin)
  • Ariana DeBose (West Side Story)
  • Sonoya Mizuno (Am I OK?)
  • Tilda Swinton (Problemista)
  • Mia Threapleton (The Phoenician Scheme)
Problemista Screencap
Tilda Swinton in Problemista (2024) dir. Julio Torres

There's nothing new here, so I don't really have anything to say.

Best Director of a Motion Picture

  • Ryan Coogler (Sinners)
  • Edward Berger (Conclave)
  • Robert Eggers (Nosferatu)
  • Sam Esmail (Comet)
  • Kogonada (After Yang)
  • Danny & Michael Philippou (Bring Her Back)
  • Paul Thomas Anderson (One Battle After Another)
One Battle After Another Screencap
One Battle After Another (2025) dir. Paul Thomas Anderson

Paul Thomas Anderson did it again with his $130M political thriller. The winner of my Best Director award at last year's Timmys for Punch-Drunk Love is gunning for his second straight Timmy with One Battle After Another. PTA was absolutely in his bag for this one, doing some insane work with the camera in scenes like the car chase in the hills.

TELEVISION AWARDS

  • Severance (Season 2)

  • Andor (Season 2)
  • The Bear (Season 4)

Severance (2022-) // Season 2, Episode 1 "Hello Ms. Cobel"

Nothing has changed here since the last update, as is a theme here in the television section.

Best Actor in a Television Drama

  • Charlie Cox (Daredevil: Born Again)
  • Diego Luna (Andor, Season 2)
  • Adam Scott (Severance, Season 2)
  • Jeremy Allen White (The Bear, Season 4)
The Bear S04E10 Screencap
Jeremy Allen White in The Bear (2022-) // Season 4, Episode 10 "Goodbye"

There is also no changes here.

Best Actress in a Television Drama

  • Ayo Edebiri (The Bear, Season 4)
  • Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us, Season 2)
The Last of Us S02 Screencap
Bella Ramsey in The Last of Us (2023-) // Season 2

As you may have been able to guess, no changes to this category.

Best Supporting Actor in a Television Drama

  • Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear, Season 4)
  • Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, Season 2)
  • Stellan Skarsgård (Andor, Season 2)
  • Tramell Tillman (Severance, Season 2)
  • John Turturro (Severance, Season 2)
Severance S02E04 Screencap
John Turturro in Severance (2022-) // Season 2, Episode 4 "Woe's Hollow"

Believe it or not, nothing has changed here since the last update.

Best Supporting Actress in a Television Drama

  • Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear, Season 4)
  • Elizabeth Dulau (Andor, Season 2)
  • Britt Lower (Severance, Season 2)
  • Isabela Merced (The Last of Us, Season 2)
  • Genevieve O'Reilly (Andor, Season 2)
Andor S02E04 Screencap
Isabela Merced in The Last of Us (2023-) // Season 2, Episode 4 "Day One"

Nothing has changed here, either. However, I will note that I am becoming increasingly more likely to move Britt Lower to the Best Actress category, so don't be surprised if she's there instead when the nominees are announced.

Best Television Comedy

  • The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017-2023)
  • Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (2024-2025)
  • The White Lotus (Season 3)
  • The Studio (2025-)
  • Peacemaker (Season 2)
  • Gen V (Season 2)
Peacemaker Screencap
Peacemaker (2022-) // Season 2

Skeleton Crew has been knocked out, which was pretty much expected at some point. The new additions are the second seasons of Peacemaker and Gen V. Neither one has finished airing as of writing this, with Peacemaker releasing its penultimate episode of the season this week, and Gen V releasing its fifth. Both seasons are just as fun as their first, and Gen V continues to vindicate my take that its characters are overall better and more enjoyable than The Boys.

Best Actor in a Television Comedy

  • John Cena (Peacemaker, Season 2)
  • Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus, Season 3)
  • Seth Rogen (The Studio)
Peacemaker S02E06 Screencap
John Cena in Peacemaker (2022-) // Season 2 Episode 6 "Ignorance Is Chris"

John Cena is the sole addition to a category that is yet to be filled out, but don't let that fool you. He is just as hilarious as in season 1, and he contiues surprises when he taps into the dramatic side of things.

Best Actress in a Television Comedy

  • Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)
  • Parker Posey (The White Lotus, Season 3)
  • Jaz Sinclair (Gen V, Season 2)
Gen V Screencap
Jaz Sinclair in Gen V (2023-)

Rachel Brosnahan has a bit of company now with the additions of Jaz Sinclair and Parker Posey. Posey isn't technically new, as she was here last time in the Best Supporting Actress category. I believe I mentioned that she could get moved, so there it is. Jaz Sinclair, whom I nominated for season 1 of Gen V last year, picks up right where she left off and is arguably even better, and the show has only aired half its episodes.

Best Supporting Actor in a Television Comedy

  • Ike Barinholtz (The Studio)
  • Walton Goggins (The White Lotus, Season 3)
  • Hamish Linklater (Gen V, Season 2)
  • Tony Shalhoub (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)
  • Michael Zegen (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)
Gen V S02 Screencap
Hamish Linklater in Gen V (2023-) // Season 2

Hamish Linklater has been a real treat this season on Gen V as a new cast member. He plays the new dean of God U., a brooding yet oddly charismatic supe, whose mysterious background is a focal point of the new season. Linklater does a fabulous job making us want more of him, despite beind tough to decipher.

Best Supporting Actress in a Television Comedy

  • Alex Borstein (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)
  • Sarah Catherine Hook (The White Lotus, Season 3)
  • Carrie Coon (The White Lotus, Season 3)
  • Jennifer Holland (Peacemaker, Season 2)
  • Parker Posey (The White Lotus, Season 3)
  • Chase Sui Wonders (The Studio)
  • Aimee Lou Wood (The White Lotus, Season 3)
Peacemaker S02E03 Screencap
Jennifer Holland in Peacemaker (2022-) // Season 2 Episode 3 "Another Rick Up My Sleeve"

As mentioned previously, Parker Posey is still currently nominated in another category, I just crossed out her name for dramatic effect. As for Jennifer Holland, she's done some great work in Peacemaker season 2, adding more layers to the character of Emilia Harcourt while also portraying a polar opposite alternate reality version of the character. As you can see, there are currently six nominees here, so someone is going to have to be cut. I'm just not sure who yet.

Best Limited or Anthology Series

  • Devs (2020)
  • Dopesick (2021)
Dopesick Screencap
Dopesick (2021)

This is the only limited or anthology series I've watched since the last update, but it was a very good one. It tells the story of the opioid crisis' origin with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family. Fuck those people.

Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series

  • Michael Keaton (Dopesick)
Dopesick Screencap
Michael Keaton in Dopesick (2021)

Michael Keaton is the only person in this category so far, but he was very good in the series. He perfectly plays the warm, friendly doctor, and the dejected Oxy addict.

Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series

  • Sonoya Mizuno (Devs)
Devs Screencap
Sonoya Mizuno in Devs (2020)

Nothing has changed here.

Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series

  • Zach Grenier (Devs)
  • Stephen McKinley Henderson (Devs)
  • Nick Offerman (Devs)
  • Michael Stuhlbarg (Dopesick)
Dopesick Screencap
Michael Stuhlbarg in Dopesick (2021)

Michael Stuhlbarg is the only new nominee here for his work in Dopesick. Stuhlbarg played Richard Sackler, the dipshit behind the development and falsely advertised painkiller known as OxyContin. He somehow made me hate the dad from Call Me by Your Name. I genuinely hated this guy whenever he was on-screen. One reason is because I know Richard Sackler is a real person, but it's also because Michael Stuhlbarg is just that despicable in the role.

Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series

  • Rosario Dawson (Dopesick)
  • Kaitlyn Dever (Dopesick)
  • Alison Pill (Devs)
  • Cailee Spaeny (Devs)
Dopesick Screencap
Kaitlyn Dever in Dopesick (2021)

The two performers from Dopesick that were added are Rosario Dawson and Kaitlyn Dever. Dawson plays a strong, independent female in a male dominated space, the DEA. When Dawson really got to shine was when they showed how her work investigating OxyContin has consumed her life and ruined her marriage, giving her the ability to show the human side of her, which really changes your perspective on her even when she's at work. Kaitlyn Dever, who is also up for a Timmy for Best Guest Actress in a Drama for The Last of Us (guest acting awards aren't in these updates), did arguably the best work out of anyone in the show, acting alongside the likes of Michael Keaton. She has a southern accent in the show, which I really didn't even think twice about despite being familiar with her real voice, which is a testament to how she disappeared into the role.

Looking Ahead

Thank you all for reading this far. It's really for your own benefit but I still appreciate it. Like I did in the last two updates, here are some films and series releasing this year I have yet to watch that could be part of the nominations in January:

  • Poker Face (Season 2)
  • After the Hunt (2025) dir. Luca Guadagnino
  • Running Man (2025) dir. Edgar Wright
  • The Smashing Machine (2025) dir. Benny Safdie
  • Marty Supreme (2025) dir. Josh Safdie
  • The Chronology of Water (2025) dir. Kristen Stewart
  • Urchin (2025) dir. Harris Dickinson
